Under an hour north of Denver, Greeley, Colorado is a family oriented city with lots to do. Offering 17 miles of paths on the Poudre River Trail, 30 parks, ball fields, and playgrounds, Greeley is a wonderful place to soak up the Northern Colorado sun. The Family FunPlex is a main attraction for all ages offering Adventure Island Aquatic Park featuring waterslides and a pool, River Run Miniature Golf, Willie Morton fitness center, Field house and Fun-zone. Another great facility for families is the Ice Haus, which is not only home to the University of Northern Colorado’s championship ice hockey club team, but is also open to the public offering skating lessons and great deals on family nights and “stick’n’puck” student nights. Finally, the Greeley Senior Activity Center provides recreational opportunities for the members of the community who are fifty-plus, including organized trips to Denver sports games and the Rocky Mountain ski resorts, senior sports leagues, games, and classes such as ceramics, computers and senior fitness. When residents aren’t enjoying outdoor recreation, they can be found dancing and listening to live music at Cactus Canyon, The Penalty Box or Pitchers or dining at one of the many restaurants in the city. With an endless array of choices to sample ranging from local favorites like Romas and The Kitchen to chains like Red Robin and Old Chicago, Greeley residents have a full plate. Considering all the fun activities available, it’s a wonder how residents can still find time for celebrations such as Cinco de Mayo, Oktoberfest, Greeley Fiesta, the Annual Arts Picnic and the Greeley Stampede which have become a hallmark of Greeley living. Greeley is home to the University of Northern Colorado. Students at UNC have the benefit of 100 majors, honors programs, internships, undergraduate research programs and study abroad programs. The University also boasts several award winning professors, including Professor of Special Education George Butts who is considered to be one of the 50 most influential leaders in the history of gifted education. Considering all this, perhaps the University is right on the money with its claims to deliver more than the other area universities while costing much less. In addition to its academics, UNC prides itself on its division 1 UNC Bears football, basketball, volleyball, and soccer, as well as club and intramural sports. Not only that, but various musical events, the Little Theater of the Rockies and three art galleries also call the University of Northern Colorado home. Although the city of Greeley offers so much already, it is undergoing a series of improvements to its city parks and recreation amenities, as well as various improvements to neighborhoods, public safety and government buildings. These improvements are an ongoing task aimed at improving the quality of life for those that live here and are anticipated to be complete by 2023, although residents are reaping the benefits already. |
